Honeymoon - Hong Kong, ROC - June 12-14, 2000
The HKK dollar traded ~7.40-7.71 per US$1.
It was my first time in Asia.
We stayed at the Marco Polo Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST).
Consistent with Nina travel practices, we signed up for bus tours.
You cannot rent a sailing junk in Hong Kong harbour - I tried.
We did ride in a sampan boat.
We went (steeply) up Victoria's Peak on a cable car ride and looked
out over HK.
We went to Kowloon (a tale about Nine Dragons) and the Stanley market
where I picked up a pair of sandals (sneakers don't cut it in the heat/humidity).
We took the Star Ferry from TST to Central at night. HK is lit up and
the water is dead calm. Nice ride. We went to the Furama Hotel restaurant
(which apparently spins atop the building). It was closed at that hour
(10:30pm) and no longer spinning.
Next day, we went to the New Territories including a rural temple.
Returning to HK, we went to the Bird Garden and the Flower Garden.
Nina likes the talking birds saying Happy New Year in Cantonese (Kong-Hei-Fat-Choy).
Thanks to Andrew Chang and his wife for the detailed sightseeing suggestions
they offered.
